Three Pine Creek Rail-Trail Bridges Being Inspected
By David Ira Kagan

From September 20-22 bridge safety inspections are being conducted on the three Pine Creek Rail-Trail bridges at Torbert Village, Ramsey and Waterville. Workers from two contracted companies in central Pennsylvania are involved: C.C. Johnson & Malhotra, P.C., Engineering Infrastructure Solutions, out of Camp Hill; and Harcon Bridge Access Services, from Paradise.
One worker from the Camp Hill firm, commenting on September 20th to this reporter from his perch up in the steel girders of the Torbert Village bridge, said, “This bridge seems to be in remarkably good shape for having been built in 1883.”
Actually, the bridge was rebuilt in 1902, as a plaque bolted into the cement block at the north end of the structure records: “N.Y.C. & H.R.R.R. Rebuilt 1902.” The initials stand for “New York Central and Hudson River Railroad.”
Bicyclists can still go over these bridges during the inspections, but will have to be careful going by the men, their vehicles and equipment.
